"Growing older is mandatory, growing up is optional."
From Voyevoda
This goes to show how much you actually want to delve into art philosophy. A person as obsessed with illuminating his own abilities and comparing feats in art (for that, there's always Conceptart.org's “THUNDERDOME” event, if you so wish) such as you can't really hope to receive good responses towards his post. While I'm in no position to judge you by this statement, it's preferable to at least come across as modest - or at least show that you pay your due respect to sites such as Deviantart, which wasn't conceptualized for helping people boost their self-imposed gloating.
It is more important than I think you will ever imagine when it comes to get your points across, and instead of people thinking of you as just obnoxious, they might actually consider what you have brought to the table.
Also, I must say; your stance towards ‘Yaoi’ is quite ironic, considering your appreciation of the old masters.
Saying talent for/in art is something you have to be born with is a thought that has been reiterated by many. It almost feels that it becomes less correct the more people keep saying it. 'Talent for art' is a really arbitrary term. 'Experience' is much more valuable, and quite possibly, patience even more so. With these two things come the passion, and what that passion is for those people that has it is always very individual. Some people like to participate in workshops with other people, just bringing their sketchpads and brainstorming every crazy idea they get and put it out as quickly as possible on the paper. Some people like to spend their creative moments alone - possibly on a trip - searching long for the right locations for what they had in mind. It is true that some people seem to make quicker progress in their struggle to learn and develop as much as possible as artists, but rather than this quicker development being based in our genes it is more likely that these individuals have just grasped what they want to do, and what they want to learn. If you’re focused you will learn THAT much more. I don’t know how much experience you got, nor how patient you are.
You definitely don’t have the passion I’ve seen some people have though. Call this “enlightenment” talent, or whatever you may wish. There’s an equal chance for everyone to obtain it as long as they want to.
And so, on to the second point.
You are saying that anime and manga have influenced the art world? Is that really that shocking to you? It is but another step in the evolution of how people perceive, and want to perceive things, which art has always been about. Secondly, why would today’s youth actually need to experience classical art? If they were really interested in pursuing such a career they would get to study it anyway. Today’s art, manga and such included, isn’t pushing away classical art at all; it is simply preferred. Not by all though, and frankly, I think you don’t realize how many great artists there are out there. I’ve been to quite a few international workshops, and if you would broaden your scope outside the boundaries of Goya and Dali and start to realize that people like Rick Berry, Phil Hale and Ron Lemen (just putting out examples, these guys are amazing though) are out there TODAY with their future ahead of them, you would probably not be as gloomy as you come across in your post. What I really wanted to say in the end here though is that all aspects of art is viewable and accessable to anyone if they wish to do so.
I agree that the making of an art piece is just as important as the final result, if not MORE so, since the process itself is what gives you experience and is what makes you enjoy art.
I however, don’t agree with your implications that we have lost any aspect of art, let alone the process of its creation. Your opinion falls remarkably close to a certain quote from an art book I have recently acquired:
“Digital is already the new pornography. A riskless safety from the actual, a child’s fear of experience glorified as a lifestyle… It makes me sick”
It probably makes you sick too, right? This is another part of art that is very individual. Some people like the closeness, the odours and the feel. They like having their senses filled with the essence of the process. On the other hand some find the traditional method clumsy, slow and ineffective. The latter group just wants to learn as much as possible as fast as possible. It is nothing to despise them for, but rather everyone should accept their view on how they want things to be done. Everything is achievable in art, both in the traditional and in the digital world.
One could argue that your opposition to manga art and your claims that it's diluting your view of its classical counter-part (so to speak) is based on your tastes as well. You say "Large eyes and small mouths", implying that you think it is simplistic and not fit nor able to convey the same amount of emotion a well made portrait could. I have to say I prefer normal portrait work as well, but it's only because it's my passion. I hold no contempt towards manga artists or what they like to do. In fact I enjoy it a lot and I can barely wait what it will evolve into. Clearly, this subject is another that has fallen victim to subjectivity, and it is nothing that will hurt art in general either.
Lastly, why should anyone force to watch anything? You're so deluded on your opinions that you fail to realize that your appreciation of all the artists of whom you have made mention is just as much instant gratification (although 'satisfaction' is a better word to use here) as manga is to the people you antagonize.
